Why Your Resume is not being considered

You have sent a mail but have not received any response yet. Find out the reasons  why you are not getting shortlisted here
Fresher: Sends a Mail without a subject
Recruiter: Ok! We are receiving 100’s of emails every day and we do not have the time to open your mail and read the content and analyze it. We cannot process your profile

Fresher: Sends a mail without body content
Recruiter: If you are interested, can you not spend a minute to write a body. This either shows that you are not really interested in the job or you are in general careless

Fresher: Sends mail with a generic subject like “my resume”
Recruiter: We do know that it’s you resume but who are you? What position are you applying for? Are you fresher or experienced?

Fresher: Sends a mail including the email id’s or other recruiters in the “To” List
Recruiter:  You just need a job and sent your mail to all the recruiters and HR’s. This is not the right way to send a job email. Send us a separate mail explaining what position you are applying for and why you are interested in our company

Fresher: Sends a mail without mentioning the title of the job in the subject line. Example “Applying in your company” instead of “Applying for the post of Software Engineer as a fresher”
Recruiter: We do not have time to open your resume and find out a role for you . We have others who clearly mentioned what they are applying for!

Fresher: Sends a mail with unacceptable English in the subject line. For example “I apply to your company and send mail”
Recruiter: You might be a genius but any job in our company needs decent communication skills. Sorry, we are not interested

Fresher: Being too desperate in the email content. For example “I can work hard at any location and can work for more than 12 hours a day”
Recruiter: We knew that no one would be interested to work more than 12 hours a day. You are just trying to attract our attention in the wrong way

7 tips to enhance job prospects through Facebook

Social networking sites, which were earlier considered to be a domain only for teenagers, are increasingly being used as an important tool for building professional relationships and businesses.

According to a survey conducted by reppler.com (a social media monitoring website), 91% of recruiters visited a potential employee's online profile as part of the recruitment procedure and 69% rejected the applicants on the basis of the content found on their online profile.

However, 68% of them also hired prospective candidates on the basis of their presence on social networking sites.

Here are some tips to communicate professionally through social networking sites.

1) Avoid malicious content : What is there on the web stays on the web - Never post malicious content. Always check your posts for grammatical errors. Keep private conversations strictly private.

2) Watch your language : Always maintain consistency in your tone of language. Check the words you use most often. Do you want to relate your personality with these words?

3) Check your post : If a lot of your posts on your Facebook profile are from a game application, do you want your prospective employers to see that?

4) Likes should be ‘likeable’ : Check which pages you associate yourself with on a social networking website. Google yourself -- would you like to associate yourself with the sites that are first on Google's list?

5) Build your credibility : It is important to build your credibility. Ask your seniors and previous employers for recommendations. Join groups which will add different dimensions to your online personality.

6) Never lie professionally : Always give true details about your professional qualifications.

7) Profile update : Always keep your profile updated.

Weak IT hiring to hit low-tier colleges, cities

Weak results and the persistent challenging conditions in the dominant markets of the US and Europe are likely to dent the Indian IT industry's hiring this year, says experts. The most affected would be tier-2 institutions and small town colleges. With requirements going down, hiring is expected to be completed at fewer centres.

"Fewer campuses will be covered this time. Also, a lot of hiring will happen in locations closer to company offices where projects are being executed. This may leave out smaller locations," said S Murlidhar, CEO of Merit-Trac , a skills assessment firm that works closely with many IT companies in designing and administering tests. "Tier-2 institutions are likely to suffer big time."

Hiring wasn't strong last year too and the trend will continue this year, said Murlidhar . "Last year was one of correction. With respect to top 10% of our clients, which include most of the large IT majors, hiring was down 30% last year based on our testing data. No rebound can be expected this year either," he said.

However, an official from a top IT firm disagreed. "I don't think there was any correction in hiring last year. Also, I don't expect the number of campuses covered to come down, especially when we are talking about large tier-1 firms. If we take the last reference point of 2009 when hiring was weak, large firms still covered all the campuses they used to go to," said the official.

On the issue of increasing number of people on the bench and the deferred joining dates, Nasscom president Som Mittal said that around 1,10,000 students have already been inducted and he expects all the remaining to join the workforce by March next year. "It will be done in a staggered fashion as per business requirements ," he said. He was speaking on the sidelines of the Nasscom-HR summit held in Chennai. "Larger firms will be the major players in on-campus hiring while smaller firms will go for off-campus hiring ," he said.

In the years when the going was good, IT companies - mainly the small ones - used to go to campuses for hiring earlier than September-October. This year, many companies are holding on and are likely to begin hiring only in September. Nasscom has suggested to the companies that campus hiring should begin in September. Larger firms are also waiting for their financial results before they decide on the amount of hiring they intend to do.

DBMS Basic Interview Questions and Answers

DBMS Basics  Interview Questions

Following are the DBMS Basics  Interview Questions presenting here are collected from various students, professors, websites.

DBMS Interview Questions

1. What is database?

Ans:- A database is a logically coherent collection of data with some inherent meaning, representing some aspect of real world and which is designed, built and populated with data for a specific purpose.

2. What is DBMS?

Ans:- It is a collection of programs that enables user to create and maintain a database. In other words it is general-purpose software that provides the users with the processes of defining, constructing and manipulating the database for various applications.

3. What is a Database system?

Ans:- The database and DBMS software together is called as Database system.

4. What are the advantages of DBMS?

Ans:- Redundancy is controlled.
Unauthorised access is restricted.
Providing multiple user interfaces.
Enforcing integrity constraints.
Providing backup and recovery.

5. What are the disadvantage in File Processing System?

Ans:- Data redundancy and inconsistency.
Difficult in accessing data.
Data isolation.
Data integrity.
Concurrent access is not possible.
Security Problems.

6. Describe the three levels of data abstraction?

Ans:- The are three levels of abstraction:

Physical level: The lowest level of abstraction describes how data are stored.
Logical level: The next higher level of abstraction, describes what data are stored in database and what relationship among those data.
View level: The highest level of abstraction describes only part of entire database.

7. Define the "integrity rules"?

Ans:- There are two Integrity rules.

Entity Integrity: States that "Primary key cannot have NULL value"
Referential Integrity: States that "Foreign Key can be either a NULL value or should be Primary Key value of other relation.

8. What is extension and intension?

Ans:- Extension: It is the number of tuples present in a table at any instance. This is time dependent.
Intension: It is a constant value that gives the name, structure of table and the constraints laid on it.

9. What is System R? What are its two major subsystems?

Ans:- System R was designed and developed over a period of 1974-79 at IBM San Jose Research Center. It is a prototype and its purpose was to demonstrate that it is possible to build a Relational System that can be used in a real life environment to solve real life problems, with performance at least comparable to that of existing system.
Its two subsystems are

Research Storage
System Relational Data System.

10. How is the data structure of System R different from the relational structure?

Ans:- Unlike Relational systems in System R

Domains are not supported
Enforcement of candidate key uniqueness is optional
Enforcement of entity integrity is optional
Referential integrity is not enforced

11. What is Data Independence?

Ans:- Data independence means that "the application is independent of the storage structure and access strategy of data". In other words, The ability to modify the schema definition in one level should not affect the schema definition in the next higher level.
Two types of Data Independence:

Physical Data Independence: Modification in physical level should not affect the logical level.
Logical Data Independence: Modification in logical level should affect the view level.
NOTE: Logical Data Independence is more difficult to achieve

12. What is a view? How it is related to data independence?

Ans:- A view may be thought of as a virtual table, that is, a table that does not really exist in its own right but is instead derived from one or more underlying base table. In other words, there is no stored file that direct represents the view instead a definition of view is stored in data dictionary.

Growth and restructuring of base tables is not reflected in views. Thus the view can insulate users from the effects of restructuring and growth in the database. Hence accounts for logical data independence.

13. What is Data Model?

Ans:- A collection of conceptual tools for describing data, data relationships data semantics and constraints.

14. What is E-R model?

Ans:- This data model is based on real world that consists of basic objects called entities and of relationship among these objects. Entities are described in a database by a set of attributes.

15. What is Object Oriented model?

Ans:- This model is based on collection of objects. An object contains values stored in instance variables with in the object. An object also contains bodies of code that operate on the object. These bodies of code are called methods. Objects that contain same types of values and the same methods are grouped together into classes.

16. What is an Entity?

Ans:- It is a 'thing' in the real world with an independent existence.

17. What is an Entity type?

Ans:- It is a collection (set) of entities that have same attributes.

18. What is an Entity set?

Ans:- It is a collection of all entities of particular entity type in the database.

19. What is an Extension of entity type?

Ans:- The collections of entities of a particular entity type are grouped together into an entity set.

20. What is Weak Entity set?

Ans:- An entity set may not have sufficient attributes to form a primary key, and its primary key compromises of its partial key and primary key of its parent entity, then it is said to be Weak Entity set.
